Brandon Brown: $2,850

Brandon Brown

Thanks to Denver Actors Fund, a pain in the back does not become a pain in the wallet

Aid recipient: Brandon Brown, who went to Arvada High School and Red Rocks Community College, has been a Production Assistant on many Miners Alley Playhouse productions, including “once,” “District Merchants,” “Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune,” “Queen of Conspiracy,” “Our Town” “Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps” and “Lend Me a Tenor.” Brandon is the fiancé of Stage Manager Bryanna Scott, who has been on a journey with ovarian cancer since last year.

His medical story: When the comic shop Brandon worked for closed for good in May, he made the decision to become a 24/7 caregiver to Bryanna as she went through her various surgeries and chemo treatments. Not long after, Brandon discovered a small but painful cyst on his tailbone that a consultation determined needed to be removed. He underwent surgery that solved the problem, but he was left with 2,849.95 in out-of-pocket medical expenses.

How the Denver Actors Fund helped: The Denver Actors Fund board voted unanimously to pay Brandon’s entire medical obligation, or $2,850. Overall, the DAF has paid $4,186 toward the couple’s recent medical expenses.

‘WE COULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN THIS FAR WITHOUT YOU.’

A message from Brandon: “After having just left my job to care for my fiancé, this bill was something that I just couldn’t afford. Bryanna suggested I go to the Denver Actors Fund for assistance, and they couldn’t have helped me more. What they have done for me and others in the theater community is beyond me. I’m thankful that they helped me through my medical needs so I could continue to be there for Bryanna. I’m proud to have been there for the Denver Actors Fund on many fundraiser nights during my time at Miners Alley Playhouse, knowing how much they help others. But I never thought that one day, they would be helping me. Thank you so much for your help with not only me but Bryanna as well. We couldn’t have gotten this far without you.”

COME TO THE EVENTS THAT SUPPORT US:

ONGOING: “Quarantine Week by Weak” is a new photographic coffee-table book by Susannah McLeod and her wife, Chloe McLeod, who chronicled their home life during the COVID19 shutdown with a light-hearteded photo series documenting their lives during quarantine. They produced more than 35 sets of humorous photos comparing the beginning of quarantine to later in the “stay-at-home” period. Susannah pulled out her camera and we started to play,” said Chloe McLeod. As popularity for the series grew on Instagram and after a feature in Westword, the couple started exploring options to publish the series as a book to benefit The Denver Actors Fund.
