Heather Lacy’s insurance lapsed during the pandemic shutdown, but the Denver Actors Fund filled the gap
Financial aid recipient: Heather Lacy, originally from Las Cruces N.M., is a longtime award-winning Colorado theater actor, with recent appearances in the Arvada Center’s “Kinky Boots,” the DCPA Theatre Company’s “Anna Karenina” and Miners Alley Playhouse’s “Zen and the Art of Profit.” She won a 2018 True West Award for her breakout performance as the checked-out mom in Miners Alley’s “Fun Home.” Heather graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in Theater and Music and made her name at Openstage Theatre & Company and other theaters in Fort Collins before moving to Denver. 
Arvada Center credits also include “Sunday in the Park With George,” “A Man of No Importance,” “The Archbishop’s Ceiling,” “Blithe Spirit” and “The Women.” At the Denver Center, she also appeared in “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” and “The Doyle and Debbie Show,” with additional credits at the Lone Tree Arts Center, Aurora Fox, Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, Colorado Symphony and more. Heather is the founder of an entertainment presenting company called YearRound Sound, and she sings with The Denver Dolls. She is also a volunteer for The Denver Actors Fund. Heather’s life philosophy: Life is too short. “Be kind, and surround yourself with kind people!”
Heather’s medical story: Heather has endured a series of injuries since January 2021, the first involving her shoulder and more recently, a broken toe requiring physical therapy, X-rays and various other procedures.
How we have helped: The Denver Actors Fund helped subsidize Heather’s physical-therapy treatments and paid for various other medical expenses that came to $1,833, Including our separate COVID-response efforts (the DEAR and Kindness funds), our overall support for Heather and her family to date comes to $3,783.

A message from Heather: “When the pandemic hit, I went from opening a show one weekend to closing it the next. With all theaters closed, my health insurance through the actors union lapsed and my body said, “This is the perfect time for a major injury!” I truly cannot thank the Denver Actors Fund enough for meeting me in that moment and standing in the gap so that I could get the care I needed and heal.”

It tells the inspiring true story of the Newsboys’ Strike of 1899, following a charismatic young man named Jack Kelly and the band of paper boys who looked to him for leadership when two greedy titans of publishing suddenly raised the prices for newspapers at the children’s expense. ONGOING: “Quarantine Week by Weak” is a new photographic coffee-table book by Susannah McLeod and her wife, Chloe McLeod, who chronicled their home life during the COVID19 shutdown with a light-hearteded photo series documenting their lives during quarantine. They produced more than 35 sets of humorous photos comparing the beginning of quarantine to later in the “stay-at-home” period. Susannah pulled out her camera and we started to play,” said Chloe McLeod. As popularity for the series grew on Instagram and after a feature in Westword, the couple started exploring options to publish the series as a book to benefit The Denver Actors Fund. A Colorado Springs family is convinced that Barack Obama is coming for their guns in the final weeks of his presidency – and they’re right. Featuring Laurence Curry, Drew Horwitz, Chris Kendall, Leslie O’Carroll, Jenna Moll Reyes, Jessica Robblee, Luke Sorge and Mare Trevathan. It was recorded by the staff of Parker Arts at the PACE Center as an in-kind donation to The Denver Actors Fund.
